Learn how to get the most out of PointUp for your family.

Getting Started

Set up your family and get everyone on board in just a few minutes.

Create Your Family

Step 1: Download PointUp and sign up for your parent account.
Step 2: Tap Create Family and enter a family name.
Step 3: Open the side menu and tap Invite Family Member, then choose Child.
Step 4: Share the invite code or QR code with your child. They will create their own account using the code.

You can invite other parents or guardians to join your family as co-parents. Open the side menu, tap Family Settings, then tap Invite Parent. Co-parents have full access to create quests, approve completions, and manage rewards.

If your child is nearby, use the Add Kid on This Device option in the invite screen. It will sign you out temporarily so they can set up their account on the same device!

Creating Quests

Quests are the heart of PointUp. Create tasks for your kids and watch them level up.

Create a New Quest

Step 1: Go to the Quest Board (the centre tab) and tap the + button.
Step 2: Enter a quest title.
Step 3: Choose a category: Chores, Homework, Outdoor, Pet Care, Creative, Kindness, Self Care, or Other.
Step 4: Pick a difficulty level: Easy, Medium, or Hard. XP and Gold are set automatically based on difficulty, but you can adjust them.
Step 5: Assign the quest to one or more kids and set an optional deadline.

Quest Categories

  • Chores: Everyday tasks like tidying up, washing dishes, or taking out the bins.
  • Homework: School assignments, reading practice, or study sessions.
  • Outdoor: Physical activities like riding a bike, going for a walk, or playing in the garden.
  • Pet Care: Looking after pets — feeding, walking, grooming, or cleaning their area.
  • Creative: Art projects, music practice, building something, or creative writing.
  • Kindness: Acts of kindness like helping a neighbour, sharing, or writing a thank-you note.
  • Self Care: Healthy habits like brushing teeth, making the bed, or getting ready on time.
  • Other: Anything that doesn't fit the above — learning a new skill, organising, or custom tasks.

Set Up Recurring QuestsPRO

Step 1: Create a quest as described above.
Step 2: Toggle on Make Recurring.
Step 3: Choose how often the quest repeats: daily, weekly, or monthly. You can pick specific days and set a start time.

Managing Quests

Review completed quests, approve proof, and keep things running smoothly.

Approve a Completed Quest

Step 1: You'll get a notification when your child submits a completed quest.
Step 2: Tap the notification or go to the Quest Board to find the pending quest.
Step 3: Review the proof photo if your child submitted one (proof is optional).
Step 4: Tap Approve to award XP and Gold, or tap Reject and add a note explaining why.

Need to make changes? You can edit any active quest to update its deadline, rewards, or assigned children. Just tap the quest and select Edit. Available with PointUp Pro.

Try team quests where siblings work together towards a shared goal. Assign a quest to two or more kids and they all contribute. Available with PointUp Pro.

Rewards

Create real-world rewards that motivate your kids. They earn Gold from quests and spend it in the Rewards tab.

Create a Reward

Step 1: Go to the Rewards tab.
Step 2: Tap the + button to create a new reward.
Step 3: Enter a name, description, and set the Gold price.
Step 4: Choose a category and optionally pick an image from the online library.

  • Extra screen time (30 mins)
  • Pick dinner for the family
  • Stay up 30 minutes later
  • Trip to the park
  • Choose a movie for family night
  • Small toy or treat

Family Management

Manage your family group, invite members, and customise everyone's experience.

Invite a Child to Your Family

Step 1: Open the side menu and tap Invite Family Member (or go to Family Settings and tap Invite Kid).
Step 2: Share the invite code, QR code, or link with your child.
Step 3: Your child enters the code when signing up, creates their username and password, picks an avatar, and joins your family automatically.

Family Roles

  • Parent: Full access to create and approve quests, manage rewards, view all family stats, and adjust settings.
  • Child: Complete quests, submit proof, earn XP and Gold, and redeem rewards from the Rewards tab.

Set up Quiet Hours to pause notifications during sleep or school time. Go to Settings, scroll to the Notifications section, and configure Quiet Hours with a weekly schedule.

Set up a PIN for a Child (Profile Switching)

Step 1: Open the side menu (the three lines, top-left) and tap Family Settings.
Step 2: Tap the child you want to set a PIN for.
Step 3: Tap Set PIN, then choose a 4-digit number with them.
Step 4: Repeat for each child who needs one.

Hand the Phone to a Child

Step 1: Open the side menu and tap Switch Profile.
Step 2: Pick the child you're switching to.
Step 3: They enter their PIN and they're in. You don't need to sign out of your own account first.

What You Can Do With PINs

  • Set or change a PIN: Open Family Settings, tap a child, choose Set PIN or Change PIN.
  • Remove a PIN: From the same place. The child will need their account password to sign in until you set a new one.
  • PIN status: Each child's row in Family Settings shows whether a PIN is set.
  • Let a child manage their own PIN: Tap a child in Family Settings, then flip on Allow [child name] to manage their own PIN. They'll be able to change or remove it themselves from their Settings screen, and you'll get a notification whenever they do.
PINs aren't shown on the main sign-in screen by design. They're for handing the phone over quickly, not for the first sign-in. If you've previously signed in and out as a parent on this device, the role-selection screen can show a quick PIN screen for your kids (we keep family info for 7 days for this).

After 5 wrong PIN attempts in a row, that child's PIN locks for 5 minutes on this device. The lockout is per child and per device, so it won't affect anyone else.

Tracking Progress

See how your family is doing with detailed stats, streaks, and achievements.

What You Can Track

  • Family Screen: See your family stats, member levels, and quick actions all in one place.
  • Leaderboard: See who's earning the most XP. A fun way to encourage friendly competition between siblings.
  • Streaks: Track consecutive days of quest completion. Kids build streaks by finishing at least one quest per day. Available with Pro.
  • Badges: Achievement badges across five tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond — with rarity levels from Uncommon to Legendary.
  • Activity Heatmap: A visual calendar showing quest completion patterns over time. Spot trends and celebrate consistent effort.
  • Weekly Challenges: Family-wide bonus challenges that everyone works towards together for extra rewards.

The animated leaderboard shows your family's rankings updated in real time. It's a great conversation starter at the dinner table and encourages friendly competition.

Streaks are a powerful motivator. Kids build streaks by completing at least one quest every day. If they miss a day, a streak freeze (50 Gold) can protect their progress. Streaks and streak freezes are available with PointUp Pro.

Weekly challenges are a great way to get the whole family involved. Everyone contributes towards a shared goal, and the rewards are worth it!

Settings & Account

Customise PointUp to work best for your family.

Sync with Your CalendarPRO

Step 1: Go to Settings and scroll to the Calendar section.
Step 2: Toggle on Calendar Sync and choose Google Calendar or Apple Calendar.
Step 3: Sign in and grant permission.
Step 4: Quest deadlines now appear in your calendar automatically.

Notification Settings

  • Push notifications: Get notified when your child completes a quest.
  • Quest update alerts: Know instantly when proof is submitted for review.
  • Reward redemption notifications: Stay informed when your child redeems a reward.
  • Quiet Hours: Pause all notifications during sleep or school hours. Set a weekly schedule.

Make PointUp feel unique with custom themes. Choose from visual themes like Arctic Explorer, Mountain Adventure, Ocean Adventure, and more. Custom themes are available with PointUp Pro.

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All family data, quest history, and rewards will be lost. To delete your account, go to Settings, scroll to the Danger Zone section, and tap Delete Account.
